When you set the timing at 36 deg. with locked out timing , at idle that is what you have 36deg. correct? There is no such thing as bieng able to adjust initial timing anymore. I have always believed you can't adjust initial with locked out timing (it's got no springs and weights) spot welded.

Correct. That's why alot of MSD boxes have a start retard function so it retards 20 degrees for start and then immediatly goes to the set timing, 36 degrees per your example. I run a locked dist. on my car w/ a MSD digital 6 and it works great.

whatever your initial timing is ,is exactly what your total advance is ,...your right but i would suggest a ignition box that has a start retard like twc said if not i don't believe your starter or flywheel will last long with your compression ratio......jmo.....Mike
