: Average spring settle time
Finally changed out my front springs (1 1/2" Classic performance drop springs) and was wondering how long would these take to settle? They dropped the front only about an inch and was hoping for a little more.
They are a BIG improvement over what was in there previously. I will be posting pics.
Thanks!

sinned Feb 8th, 07, 11:14 PM Properly built springs NEVER settle. Assuming they were properly installed and won't shift to index themselves, I wouldn't count on a lot of drop. The biggest problem most folks run into is that they buy dropped springs and count on their cars dropping that much. The problem is that the drop advertised is based on new springs at OE height, not 35 year old sagged springs with sagging frames and worn suspension.
g-man65 Feb 9th, 07, 4:12 AM hey, tell me more about that ''shifting to index themselves" thing...i had exactly one full top coil cut off mine, they are very new still....i noticed where the upper & lower indents in frame/control arms are , but...when re-installing, i decided it seemed better to keep the tops happy, in there spots, but this for some reason doesn't let the bottoms rotate to there full indent position, this bothers me, will this be an issue?...did i not do enough home work ??

I hope you have towing !!! with the springs not seated properly in the lower control arms they can & have been known to chew thru !!
you have what I believe to be a dangerous condition !!!
sinned Feb 9th, 07, 10:28 AM The tops don't have a "seat", they will be fine no matter where they end up. The bottoms have an index mark right between the 2 drain holes in the LCA. If they are positioned properly they may rotate on their own given time. I have actually seen cars drop as well, usually with a sensational "bang" as well. If the springs are not centered in the top and have caught an edge.
BORDERBUM Feb 9th, 07, 11:18 AM I have been waiting one some rear springs to settle for over a year and a half now......I havent drivin the car that much due to a lack of compression, but Ive got the new motor in and this weekend after I get it started ALL THAT WILL CHANGE....but the springs have been in there for 1.5 years,,,,and they havent gone down....I tried to offset me not driving it by putting 600 lbs of concrete mix in the trunk.....dont know if it has helped yet or not..need to take the 600 lbs out first.
