I am swapping my turbo 350 tranny and converting my car over to a 700R4. My car is a mostly stock 1972 chevelle Malibu with a 350 small block and Turbo 350 set up. The rear end is a stock ten bolt, not sure if it has a 8.2 or 8.5 inch ring gear. I was hoping someone else had made this coversion and was wondering if I could get away using the same measuements from someone else without having to measure mine. Can two identical cars differ that much? The reason is because it is my daily driver and I haven't installed the tranny yet so there is no way I can get measurements. I wanted to have everything ready to make it a one day job instead of installing the tranny and then having to waiting for the driveshaft to be to be cut.

I have a 72 with a 700R4 and a 10-bolt. I can't take measurements right now the way the car is, though. I might be able to dig up my receipt to see what length I had the shaft cut to. I'll check tonight at home.
If it were me, I would rather take my own measurements to know it is correct.

I cut 3 inches off my driveshaft. But you still should measure your set up to be sure.
And definatly spend the exrta money to balance the shaft. After 30+ years service the factory balance is probably way off.

Welcome Edel. First off I agree with Bryan. Take your own measurements. Measure the th350 from the front of bell to the end of the tail shaft. Then measure the 700r4 the same way. That will tell you how much YOUR drive shaft will need to be trimmed

Welcome aboard Edel
I would agree to do your own measuring however my friend tells me he had to cut 3" from the drive shaft also.
I haven't done mine yet.
