Just reassembling and have got the best fender alignment I have ever seen! The problem is that the rad support needs a full inch of blocking between the frame and bushings on both sides! This is a new frame to this car and it is perfect. Could it be the new body mounts are different or is an inch acceptable to shim? Thanks!

..."This is a new frame to this car and it is perfect."...
Is it a NEW frame or just new to this car? In either case, how do you know it is perfect? I have seen several brand new frames that had to be straightened after installation.
The only way you can be sure it is "perfect" is to have it properly measured on a frame machine. Assuming correct body and core support mounts, an inch of shims is waaay too many. However, if all sheetmetal is aligning properly, especially the fender>door gaps, and the fan is centered in the shroud, don't worry about it.

Vettefella-The frame came from a 70 and was on a frame machine and checked before being restored! I think I have an issue here with a poor rad support reproduction ! The exact measurement I need to shim is 3/4 inch.

just shim it. what could that hurt? just make sure your threads stick a thread or two beyond the nut.

sorry read your post again. shim it and try it. how much space do you have on the front body mounts when bolted to the frame, maybe something not right there.

I had the same problem with my 71. I asked an old friend who owned a lot of Chevelles and a body shop in the "old days" . He said it was normal to have to shim the rad. support as much as an inch.Which by the way is what I had to do.It looks great. Everything lines up perfectly ....Bill

71SSBB- sounds reassuring Bill! I was concerned that the bumper may not adjust up that high! It will be back at the end of the week so I guess I will know soon. Thanks.
