: *Big* brake conversion vs. Stock

Not trying to rehash power brake conversions, but can anyone give me practical advice, in terms of stopping distance and fade, from stock drums on my 67 SS over to either 12-13 inch Baer/Wilwood style front power or the 11 inch stock power replacement kits out there. Do those stock-style power conversion kits make a big difference?

Im not gonna pro-tour the thing, or try to turn it into a 2000s technology road warier, just want to stop much sooner (and reliably) on the show-in-go style drag strips from time to time (some of them don't have a lot of pavement after the 1/4 mile marker). The added bene with the latter would be more of a stock appearance for resale.

Thoughts?

For your use, stock 11" will be adequate... they can stop a car from relatively high-speed just fine, you just need to give them plenty of time to cool before doing it again. The biggest advantage big brakes have is that they take longer to get hot, and cool faster once they are hot.

I got a stock front takoff set I will sell dirt cheap... No spindles, but I have the master too, looks nice.

OK, looks like the conversion to power with stock-like front discs is the way I'll be going. Anyone heard of the Master Power brake company. Saw an ad in a rag about stock power conversion kits with all the *detail* around paint/stampings, etc. Also have some kind of rear drum setup that is superior to the factory drums -- but all stock appearance.

Thanks,..
