Hello-

After my 1970 El Camino gets out of the paint shop I'm going to need to get some more insurance for it. The conversations used to be something like "when are you going to be able to get that thing to run...". Now the conversations from onlookers at the paint shop are like: "you better be careful, cars like that get stolen every day...".

I've searched around a bit in the archives and on the internet(s) but was curious if anyone here has a good recommendation for some collector car insurance for my elko. I'm in California and relocating to Oregon if that matters at all.

Thanks in advance for anything you can share with me.

Dan in Santa Monica...moving soon to Portland.

As long as you are aware that to insure it as a classic will include driving restrictions, and some restrictions on how/where you store it, and your own driving record you shouldn't have any problems.

Just do a search in this forum for "insurance" and you will get tons of posts with all the major players.

Now if you are hoping to make it your new daily driver- you will have a tough time.

You must have not searched the Chevelle Tech forum and Bench Racing forum as this topic comes up about once every 2 weeks asking the same question. I bet 95% of the folks that reply to this thread will have replied in the same manner in at least 2 or more other threads.

I'm kinda in the same boat with my Firebird. It'll be on the road in a couple of months or less, and as of right now, I only have liability insurance on it. I'd like to get some agreed value coverage, but I only have 3 carports for coverage. Grundy is a bit vague on their term "garage", so I just sent them an email, asking them if my carport, behind a heavy, padlocked steel gate, with a pit bull roaming around is good enough for a garage. :D Sad part is, it probably isn't. :(
