There's a new paint process out that looks very close to chrome. I saw an entire motorcycle painted in it this last January in Dallas.
The painter was there and I was picking his brain as hard as I could, playing dumb as much as possible, but he divulged no secrets. I believe he was using a BASF developed chrome paint. From three feet away, it looked like chrome. if you looked really close, it looked more like a shiny nickel plate.
If you ask me, I'd say it's a urethane based aluminized paint that you can polish and then clear coat.
years ago, I saw a few glass bumpers painted with aluminum paint, then clear coated. Of course they were sanded and buffed and looked good on a race car from the stands. I asked a guy how he did it. He said he took the paint out of two rattle cans (how-?) and sprayed the paint with a good gun at high pressure to atomize the paint well. he sanded the surface lightly with 2000 grit and recoated the silver. He then clear coated and buffed the clear. Looked OK.

Krylon has a chrome paint that is pretty good. It is called 'Original Chrome' and comes in a 8 oz rattle can. Krylon part #1010. I don't know how it might work on a bumper, but it worked good on my arm rests. And guess where you can buy it.....Walmart. God luck. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
