: front end rebuilt kit suggestions?
snou52 Feb 7th, 07, 2:15 PM Hi everyone once again  ,
I just bought a 4 wheel disc brake conversion kit...and i'm thinking since i'm going to have most of the suspension taken apart there woundn't be a better time to replace all the bushings and what not...so my question is for all you guys who've already done it...
what front end suspension rebuild kit should i go with for a 64 chevelle? cheap is good but i would also like longevity and performance. thanks
82elim Feb 7th, 07, 4:39 PM I bought a hotchkis TVS system 1400.00 for my 65SS, i'm waiting on $ for a front disc conversion and rearend re-build. Then I will install all at once. if you spent good money on 4 discs, a little more won't hurt...

Chevelle 6-71 Feb 7th, 07, 5:26 PM Can't go wrong with the Hotchkis kit.......

If it's just a stock rebuild, I'd go to NAPA for their DANA/Spicer hard parts (ball-joints, tie-rod ends) and maybe consider a kit from just about anywhere for the soft parts like bushings.

Their bushings are pretty good, but they use cheap hard parts.

I agree on both counts!
Bought all the wagon's tierods, sleeves, idler arm from my local favorite auto parts store...they sell DANA/Spicer.
Bought the Stage 2 plus control arm kit and Howe tall ball joints from Marc...delivered yesterday.
snou52 Feb 8th, 07, 4:22 PM thanks for all the info everyone...:beers:
brans72 Feb 11th, 07, 9:18 PM Just to let you Know Bill you might have to grind some off for the sc&c control arms to fit. I talked to Mark and had to do so myself today,(bummer to cause my frame was already powdercoated, but hey you live and learn I say). Oh just in case you wondering my year it is a 72 ss :)
datapusher Apr 16th, 07, 1:22 PM My supsension and steering is pretty much all brand new and from OPG. The ride feels like ****. I am curious what exactly makes hotchkis and others "better" and why they cost so much more.
SS468 Apr 17th, 07, 10:28 PM I also need some suggestions for a front end rebuild on my '70 SS. I am planning on using rubber bushings instead of poly because the car will be a weekend cruiser (no racing) and that seems to be what others on this site have recommended.
I am trying to decide if I should buy the parts and rebuild my a-arms or buy some a-arms ready to bolt on. I can buy complete upper arms from OPGI (without shafts) for $100 each and complete lowers for $144 each. If I rebuild mine, I'll be paying my local NAPA store about $50 for the ball joints and bushing for each arm plus another $57 for the shaft and paying a shop to R & R the bushings.
I have also read where the lower arms are prone to cracking near the ball joint. I think by the time I pay a shop to remove my bushings, I inspect the arms and possibly have the arms welded or boxed, I paint them and have a shop press the new bushings back in I would be better buying the OPGI arms and bolting them on. Do yall agree???
I am curious why datapusher said his car rode like **** after installing OPG parts. I don't want to have the same problem with mine.
Thanks, Chris.

No-hop bars on a lowered car installed by previous owner.
SS468 Apr 18th, 07, 9:44 PM Thanks Derek. Any thoughts on the a-arms from OPGI? Should I get the offset shafts to be sure the car can be aligned correctly?
Thanks, Chris.
I also recently ordered a Hotchkis TVS Package for a 68 Malibu. I was wondering if anyone can orient me to a shop (in LA/Whitttier area) where it can be installed and how much is reasonable for the labor.
Thanks
