: World's Worst Bodywork
wanarace May 8th, 02, 11:01 PM Ok guys, try and beat this. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.geocities.com/wanarace52/bodywork.html
I counted 6 seperate pices! The Bondo was 1/2 inch thick, covered with fiberglass, and the quater is torn.
This was definetley not my handiwork! I have a new 1/2 size quater from Goodmark to put on the fall.
PS - That's 3 week old Zero Rust I used to cover it for now. Went on just like primer. Seems fine so far.

Professor_SS May 9th, 02, 10:09 AM Ok, I'll try. In the trunk the guy took adhesive backed sanding disks cut them to fit up around the inner wheel house mudded it in and covered it with trunk paint, also both rear window corners were repaired by taking a piece of tin bending it around the corner to provide a corner then filled the rot with 1/2 a can of filler. And believe it or not both areas looked great. If the guy had put as much effort into doing the repair properly it would have lasted for 20 years.

WayneK May 9th, 02, 11:21 AM I have to admit that 1/4 is UGLY. It's not the number of peices but the method or lack of thats intriguing.
But I am here to tell you it's not the Worssess out there.
There is not enough bandwidth to start but eveything from RAGs to news paper , Stop signs to steel pipes, steel wool to tape(ALL TYPES). Used as fillers, repacement steel or tempory foundation to hold the

BIGMOE65 May 9th, 02, 3:10 PM Dont feel bad, I found a whole newspaper rolled up in my b piller then covered with bondo on my 65 elco. The date on the newspaper was from 1985.

ledsled May 10th, 02, 12:05 AM I had a '77 Blazer that had its' quarter panels completely made out of Bondo, chicken wire, newspaper, and sanding pads.
I had to use a SawzAll to cut through it all. All in all it was about 3/4" thick. Tough as can be though, there were no amount of jumps or crazy 4x4 insanity that ever cracked it.

AlMyPal39 May 10th, 02, 12:51 AM I've seen worse!!! His bodywork did the job he intended it to do -- look good enough, long enough, for some unsuspecting soul to BUY IT.
There are lessons to be learned here, for all of us...

MARTINSR May 10th, 02, 8:07 PM I beat the bondo thickness contest! On my truck I had 1 1/2 inches of filler on the center of the roof! I put two gallons before I even touched it with sandpaper! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Moloko May 10th, 02, 8:26 PM My car's quarters were made completely out of bondo and fencing, my floors are patched with parts of a truck door. The worst is my friends roadrunner. Easily 2 inches of bondo in the one quarter, pop riveted sheetmetal everywhere, some areas filled in with aerosol foam insulation, then painted over. The wiring and mechanicals are even worse.

more ambition than brains May 10th, 02, 8:52 PM Had hung around body shop since 9 yrs. old, worked after school from 11 yers old. At 16 years old, did first autobody effort, 61 or 62 Buick Electra 225 convert. Brazed and abused 14 separate pieces into place on one quarter, 12 (I think) pieces on other panel, spread and sanded filler evenings for over two weeks 4-5 hours a night, painted complete, got careless, white car had slight pink hue to color. Actually looked pretty good. 35 years later still in industry, can't believe I ever did that!! Hope car didn't end up in California for MARTINSR to do over.
66Malibu May 13th, 02, 1:41 PM I drove all the way from Chicago to DesMoines, Iowa to look at a 66 that I had been assured was "rust free". I pulled back the carpet on the driver's side (which came up easily) and found asphalt roofing shingles covering a huge hole in the floorpan.

Professor_SS May 13th, 02, 5:38 PM If he doesn't I might, but I'd never get into them... I destroyed all the pictures I could find of me with the Polyester (sp?) and long hair, but then I wasn't chopping a cool 50s pickup in any of them either.
Neat truck chop.
