: muffler decisions??
fossilrunner Feb 6th, 07, 2:24 AM well in about two weeks im goin to get the exhaust done on the car. it'll be 3" dumped at the axle. Now what im lookin for is something thats pretty loud but has a tone to it,not like the dynomax bullets. Ive narrowed it down to 3
Spintech pro streets- loud but not overpowering
Spintech pro-shootouts- real loud, not sure if it will have enough tone to it
Flowmaster 1 chambers- same as spintechs
erikbuzz Feb 6th, 07, 2:28 AM I have heard good things about the prostreets. No personal experience though.
Junkyard Dawg Feb 6th, 07, 5:56 AM I like my Ultraflows, plus they made an improvement in power over the Flowmasters.
Johnny O Feb 6th, 07, 7:25 AM I'll second the Dynomax Ultraflows. Mine is 3" and dumps at the rear axle...and it's not quiet, which you want. But has a great tone. Man, there's a thousand ways to go with this.
mr 4 speed Feb 6th, 07, 7:26 AM Man, there's a thousand ways to go with this.
yeah there is.Muffler choices as well as exhaust is mind numbing!
Chevelle 6-71 Feb 6th, 07, 9:33 AM Ultraflows are great. Fairly loud at idle but at WOT they are basically straight pipes.
fabio Feb 6th, 07, 9:41 AM does anybody know how the magma flows sound? I was talking to joe sherman and he swore by these but I forgot to ask how they sound. lol
jhunt Feb 6th, 07, 9:41 AM I have the Flomaster super 40s with 3' exh. and love the sound. Nice sound at idle and at wot, people will know you're coming. no pun intended LOL
cuisinartvette Feb 6th, 07, 10:46 AM Ive heard a couple of clips of the Goerlich mufflers, they sound awesome.
Wow, 3" exhaust with dumps...Hope you bring earplugs.
Chevelle 6-71 Feb 6th, 07, 11:35 AM does anybody know how the magma flows sound? I was talking to joe sherman and he swore by these but I forgot to ask how they sound. lol
Those are the ones I currently have on the '69. Nice deep rumble with a straight through pipe. Fairly loud and really loud at WOT. :D
I have some 4 in. spintech mufflers and they are reasonably quiet at idle...considering they are 4 in.
They will talk to you when you stand on it.
AND, they dont sound anything like Flowmasters.
I did dyno the engine with them and ended up with no hp.loss although it
did take some tuning to get it back.
ChevelleRob Feb 6th, 07, 1:03 PM I vote Spin Tech Pro Streets, I will probably wind up with those myself and an x pipe.
fossilrunner Feb 6th, 07, 1:57 PM i have already put dynomax and magnaflow out of the question, a little to quite for me. Ive had the pro streets on a car before and they sounded pretty good , but I was kinda lookin into the pro shoot outs this time. will these have the tone like the pro streets or more just like straight pipe??
Barista Feb 6th, 07, 2:06 PM I'll second the Dynomax Ultraflows. Mine is 3" and dumps at the rear axle...and it's not quiet, which you want. But has a great tone.
Same here, 3" Ultraflows dump at the axle. Very deep tone. They sound better than anything I've ever heard. Magnaflow makes an almost identical product to these and they should sound almost alike. Mine are a long body, (20"), and it's pretty quiet for a straight thru design until you stand on it. The short body models would obviously be louder.
Chevelle 6-71 Feb 6th, 07, 4:16 PM Hell, put a set of DMH electric cutouts on & crack some glass
fossilrunner Feb 6th, 07, 6:05 PM how would the pypes race pros compare to the prostreets
SmallBlockNova Feb 6th, 07, 6:10 PM 1-5/8 headers to 3" collector, 3" X Pipe to Flowmaster Delta Force one chambers turned at eachother before the rear axle....All soon to be on a daily driver...
Joe
supershift67 Feb 11th, 07, 3:47 PM I was trying to find some good sounding exhaust also and I dont like the drone of the flowmaster so I found an exaust baffle that looked pretty cool. These are supposed to have no backpressure either unlike the flowmasters.www.spiralturbobaffles.com I ended up getting the 3 inch baffles and will try them soon
bb489 Feb 11th, 07, 7:34 PM Check out my sig for my exhaust video (one is at idle, the other is a burnout).. I have 3" with the Goerlich Xcellerator mufflers with dumps and I think they sound wicked. People at the cruises love them. I've had Ultra flows on too and these sound way different in my opinion. I also had flow master 40s and super 40s on this same motor and the Goerlichs are my favorite hands down. These are straight through as well.
Ccass Feb 20th, 07, 12:02 AM how would the pypes race pros compare to the prostreets
They don't compare very much at all. The Pro Street is a chambered muffler. It is more aggressive sounding with an echo'y raspy tone and medium flow for extra low end torque as with most chambered mufflers. The Pypes Race Pro is a straight through very high flow muffler like the DynoMax UltraFlow and Magnaflow mufflers. Fairly quiet at idle, cruising and highways speeds but pretty wild sounding at WOT. Great for medium and high end HP and torque.
69-CHVL Feb 20th, 07, 8:47 AM If you mean the Streetpro muffs, they are pretty loud, but have a nice raspyness to them. I had to get rid of them b/c of the incredible resonance, but they did sound great. I would say they are just plain loud.
Now I have Magnaflow 18" straight through jobs. Much quieter all aorund, much just about no resonance, and this is w/3" exhaust. Pretty loud at WOT though .
Here is the StreetPro high res (I kind miss the sound now that I hear it:
