The body shop that has my 66 called to talk about fixing or replacing the trunk lid. There is a bow on one side giving a raise of about a 1/4 inch above the quater panel gap.
So we talked repairing it and having it dipped for the between panels light rust that they all get,6-8 hours prep work.
So far this shop has done very nice work and has treated me very well $$$,car has been there on my rotissare(sp.)for a full year. Got a full strip and they have spent a lot of time blocking and aligning gaps(they are real picky about gaps)it is real close for its BLACK paint.Car has kept all the orignal panels so far.so should i fix the trunk lid and have some fill in it or buy a new one.
Quality of aftermarket is a concern,I have read mixed reviews. Thanks smile.gif

I guess it depends on what you intend to do with the car. I have a re-pro trunk lid on my 72 and I'll be putting one on the 70 I'm building. They are good quality and close to the original. If you are doing a big ticket concourse resto you may want to save the original lid. I think the stampings are just a little different than the reproduction units and the filler/glue that bonds the inner structure to the skins was way different than on the original lids I have. I replaced/am replacing lids because of surface rust on the undersides of the skins that I can't get too because of the inner structure. My hot rods are not intended to be concourse show dogs so the re-pro lid was the way to go for me.

JMHO.
