Guys,
I have a chance to paint my car in a booth.
This will be my first experience with painting.
It's at a school, so I have to spray and drive it away within a few hours. They don't allow overnight parking inside.

I dont believe it has any kind of intense heating in the booth, ouside of the lights..

I want to spray bc/cc (1st time)...

A few questions: .
1) Does the heating of the paint job in a
booth make a difference in shine etc....
or does it just dry faster?

2) How much time is required for the paint to set up without a dryer, before I can drive my car home (25miles)?
Ballpark estimate

If necessary, I can find someone to paint the car for me, but big money as you know..

Thanks for the input.

The booth will help in the entire painting process from letting the paint flash (dry) properly and will eliminate a lot of dirt. It also keeps you own garage clean.

A few hours and the clear is still going to be soft. Do you have to drive it right away? If you can pull it out of the booth and let it sit overnight you can add some accelerator to the clear coat and it will dry to the LIGHT touch in about 2-3 hours. BEWARE! accelerators are offered by SOME paint manufacturers and are not usually recommended. They're primary purpose is for quick production in a $$ making collision shop. I've used them before without ill effects but you may be taking a chance. Let's see what some of the pros will say.

Jimmy,
Thanks for the response.

Maybe I can work something out with the instructor to leave it over the weekend.
Maybe a few bucks for his time??
I don't want to air dry the paint by driving it around town. I can see it now!

I had one experience with an accelerator in cement=nightmare, on setting up too quick.

The class has several people sanding, doing body work in this classroom at the same time. It's like total chaos. I don't know how shops do this?

With all the debris in the air outside the paint booth...Maybe I can just open the door and it wont get so messed up??
From reading, it seems the booth has stuff as well floating around.
Its like, Six of one thing...

What is the proper time frame to apply a bc/cc and let it setup properly?
That way, I'll have a time frame I can try to get from the instructor.

Thanks,
jack
