Guys:

I have been reading with interest the threads on soundproofing. Great informative threads. Regardless of which product I choose what have y'all done to prep the floors, roof, doors, trunk, etc? My new semi project car is from Phoenix, AZ and has positively great floors etc and I am wondering what to do. Should I just clean the floors real well with a degreaser and then cover with soundproofing or should I do something like paint with rustoleum or coat with POR 15 first? I am not worried about it not being "stock" or "original" I just want to not worry ever again about rust and to have a great quiet, solid car.

Thanks

Do a search here on Dynamat. Then look for my name: Speed Shop. There are some progress pics there. I explain what I've done in that post. If you have any questions drop me a PM. I"d be glad to help.

PM Sent. Thanks for the help. I see what you did and it looks good. My floor is very clean and I am pulling the interior so it really should be pretty easy to do. What did you use for a neutralizer. There is no rust on the floor now should I use a rust encapsulator? I have read the labels on some (I think it was Rustoleum) that says it may cause rust if used on metal that does not have rust.

Also, do a search on "lizard skin: spray insulation and how you can make your own at home.

I had to do a little rust repair, so I did the POR-15 deal, then I'm using Hushmat (like Dynamat extreme).

You should be able to use a good wax and grease remover, then apply your sound deadener, They usually go on better when it's warmer, but most of the butyl types should go on at almost any temp.

I'm in the process of laying the Por 15, than will lay my raammat from raamaudio

wear the gloves!

If it ever warms up enough, I'll be putting my deadener in too. Even with the heater going, it's just too darn cold.
