My 72 has had the hood pins removed and the holes in the hood filled.
I'd like to put the pins back. Year One has a hood pin kit, part number 1756R. Seems to have everything I need.
Anybody done this before? Why would someone remove the pins? Are they a PITA to live with?
Trying to get the car as original looking as possible. I removed the COWL INDUCTION badges from the regular domed hood last week. Maybe when I have a body shop fix the damage from those badges I'll get them to install the pins too...

I ordered my hood pin kit from original parts group it has everything needed to install the pins on your chevelle, their price is $28.95 for the kit. The only problem I have heard about with having the pins is when the cables get older and weathered the plastic covering wears off and starts to scratch and chip the paint where they lay. I had my pins reinstalled when I had my chevelle painted two years ago and I do not have any scratches or chips of paint where they lay because my pin cables have a plastic coating on them which helps protect the paint. Some people might not care for the look of having the pins on 70-72 chevelles but in my opinion it gives them that finishing touch. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Fritz,
I'm not sure but I think the hood pins were part of the cowl induction package; both or neither. Anyway I got a new kit from Ground Up looks better than the original polished stainless as opposed to chrome.

What I meant was the originals were chrome, kinda cheesey, and the replacements are much higher quality.

I'm not stating this as a fact but from other past post I have read on here is that on 70 chevelles the pins only came on cowl induction hoods. For 71 and 72 all super sport chevelles came with the pins regardless of cowl induction. My 72 chevelle SS was an original 350 2 barrel carb with no stripes and it has the pins.

I don't know, I've seen quite a few 71-72 SS without the pins.

I'm only bringing this post back because I was looking through the sales brochure for 72 chevelles and it says that all SS chevelles come with SS on the fender, power disc/drum brakes, a black grille, a special domed hood with lock pins, a left-hand remote control mirror and 15x7 sport wheels with white lettered F60x15 tires. So would this help proove that all 72 chevelles regardless of a cowl induction hood or a regular SS hood came with the pins.

Brandon That's the info I saw as well.
I got my kit, and hope to install it in a few weeks...

Brandon That's correct.
