You guys were right, the base coat metallic sprayed on MUCH easier than the single stage metallic. It came out very smooth and even, so I feel much more confident about the rest of the car now. (Im painting an old hood for those of you who just joined us!) The only problem Im having now is with the clear. It goes on very grainy and doesnt flow out well, dries with a lot of craters, or pock marks in it. It is an older clear, from last year. (I didnt buy the new one yet, which I'll use on my new paint job.) As I remember, it did the same thing when I sprayed it before. I dont think its my gun, because Im a tub refinisher by trade, and I can lay down a perfectly smooth coat on mostly anything, with no orange peel and no runs (usually). I spray both an epoxy primer and a urethane single stage paint with my gun, and as I said, the base coat went on the hood just perfectly. I just think the clear is no good, or Its too thick maybe. I'll keep messing with it till I get it right, I'll go ahead and buy the clear that Im going to use and practice with that. Thanks again for the help, and I welcome any more comments. John

You might want too check the tech sheets on your clear.. I would be willing to bet you are running too much pressure for the clear and possibly the spray is restricted a little.. Play with the gun settings and all should come out fine... Good Luck!
