Stumped,

I have a 71SS; numbers match. It was originally white, black stripes, black top & black interior. I am really close to paint time but can't decide if I should go with the original colors. I kind of want to change it for something different. You might think I'm crazy, but I'm thinking about the green on new volkswagons, with black top & stripes. Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks, Warren

Changing the color is O.K. but I would stay with a color that is available on that year chevelle.
If it's all original and numbers matching you prolly should keep it that way,if you ever sell it'll be worth more money. My .02 Mike

IMO, do what you want to do. Don't worry about origonality or anything like that. Do what ever you want to it so that you like it. Whats the point of only having a car if you can't enjoy it. However, if you want the origonal look then go for it. Many people like the origonal look and it's always good for extra cash if you decide to sell it.

personally, im not a big fan on white cars. Don't know why but im just not. The green would look alright but i really liked the hugger orange for the 70's chevelles. Just my opinon though.

That white w/ black stripes sounds very nice. I have to say I've never seen a 70-72 chevelle with black stripes on white. It's always vise versa, or silver w/ black stripes. It sounds kinda rare to me. I think that'll look really clean w/ the vinyl top too. Maybe you can just keep this one original and then buy another one to mess around with later on. Just a thought.

Just my opinions, but if it's a numbers matching completely original SS car I would definately paint it the original colors or very similar, there are many shades of white with some being a lot cleaner looking than others. If it isn't all original (like mine) then paint it any color you like. Just remember some radical colors can grow very old making it tough to live with. Remember all those aqua, magenta, pink, and pumpkin colored streetrods and prostreeters of the 80's? Those colors made me ill back then and still do today, who in their right mind started that craze? Basic colors are easy to live with and easy to repair unlike candies/tri coats. Some colors go better with the bright trim these cars had, light metalics especially. White can look good if the right shade is used, some show bodylines and shadows much better than others. JMO, no offense to anyone owning a peach or pink car :D
