A buddy at work quizzed me on a promble his buddy had with a GM Crate motor BBC. It was fouling out the number 6 spark plug with oil. Also using a quart of oil every 50 miles. I thought rings didint seat or try a new spark plug or plug wire. Could be the valve guides. Funny thing was only on the # 6 cyclinder, motor ran fine clean idle all the other plugs looked good had plenty of power. What do you think is the promble? I know the answer
he had a shop find it. You wont beleive what it was. Many here will know the answer. I will post answer, just want to see what would you think it is?
I have read some post here on crate motors using oil this may help out.

what was it? I heard those motors need the ring end gap opened up more than what they come with.

Bears are behind. Yes Ratycamino got it right. It was the intake gaskets. These engines are hand built,you would think that would not happen. Its just out of the warranty. The # 6 intake was pulling in the oil thru the dual plane. I have sceen a BBC blow smoke out of the right side exhaust and it was the intake gasket. So if your using more oil than normal check that intake gasket.
And dont know if the rings are low tension or not. I run low tension rings on my 498 and have no oil use issues. Dave

HI i got zz454 it eats oil like animal allways used the same amount off oil never changed the amount it uses,good to here from anyone else on B/B oil consumption figures some guys say such large suface area ,some guys say low tension oil rings ,also valve guide seals that are fitted to these motors , i have run plenty nitrous in my zz454 no proplems at all
