hallser Feb 3rd, 07, 8:11 PM That looks like it may be a '72 in flame orange? I decided on painting my '71 SS Hugger Orange (not original), and I love it! It also sports black stripes and black vinyl top (as original). Its not a great pic, but you can see mine in my sig. I've seen '68's, 69's and even a couple of '70's painted H.O.

mmurphy77 Feb 3rd, 07, 11:25 PM Even though they are the same color, I believe the name "hugger orange" was a Camaro nomenclature and it was called "Monaco" for the Chevelle (model year 1969)

racer56 Feb 4th, 07, 1:05 AM Hugger orange it is. Back in the day we would make a trip to the farm supply store. Grab some A.C. orange(hugger orange) for broke folks:D load up on a few rollers and tape and roller(paint) the car. I think we started a fad back then as far as rollering on farm paint. Half the dang cars in the High School parking lot had to be orange. I love that color.

Dear Sleeper71Chevelle. I really like that colour. My first Chevelle was a 69 SS 396 in a beautiful orange I think Acrylic Lacquer. I think there are some environmental problems with that paint now, but the same colour is still available in modern compounds. I hope the rest will not be confusing, but I can see a possible problem. One of the respondents said "a 72 in flame orange". No doubt he is quite right. Here's the strange part. The paint I think you want is code number 72 red-orange ( Monacco orange ) Check 1969, "Paint Codes" area. It is the same colour as "hugger orange". I believe that Camaro predates the release on Chevelle in 1969, by at least a year. They had a model called Hugger Camaro, I seem to recall it was a hot 350 small block, neat stripe from the front part way down the car. This colour has also been used on performance '69 Camaros and also used on Corvette. Monacco orange and Daytona yellow were available only with the SS 396 option and were new colours ( for Chevelle ) in 1969. FWIW, I believe some early Corvette colours derive their "place" names because they were actually raced there: note Nassau blue. Whether Daytona yellow, Monacco orange or Le Mans blue can boast the same heritage I don't know. To make things more interesting, check out 1969 GTO Judge. There was an a lively colour called Carousel Red, which sure looks a lot like Hugger orange and Monacco orange....not saying that it is, some Pontiac guys might correct me, but it's mighty close. Sorry a bout the lengthy rant. Great colour!
sleeper71chevelle Feb 7th, 07, 9:33 PM rb,
I do believe you nailed it with the Carousel Red GTO. Thats the color I been looking for. Thanks for the long rant.
Thanks guys for all your help. Saved me alot of time and paint.
69ssmike Feb 7th, 07, 9:41 PM I was parked next to a Judge at a show, it looks very close to Hugger Orange ( Monaco Orange) for you 69 guys.
