I have herd or read somewhere about these fat stripes being available very and I mean very late in 69' production. And I also believe they were narrower than what was available later in 70'. Meaning that 70' had an early width design and later a wider design of the same stripe.

I'll be watching for more responses on this subject as I find it very interesting.

I think that is hogwash, and don't believe 70 stripes were ever available on 69's... that was printed in that Herd book along with 1000 other incorrect statements. I have never seen a documented 69 with 70 stripes... maybe some oddball "special paint" custom order coulda slipped through, but even that i highly doubt. Personally, i dislike hood stripes on a 69-69... put the factory tape side stripe on it, that i like.

I agree 100%. 69's look terrific with the factory stripes down the side of the car. I never thought the hood stripes looked as good on a '69. But hey, it's your car so whatever floats yer boat.

Mine were already on my car when i bought it, and i liked them so had them re-done when the hood was painted.

They are just as wide as the "SS" bulges on the hood.

I think this looks much better than the "wide" style...

Do a search on TonyR's car- he also has stripes like mine, but his stop at the front edge, and do not wrap around like mine....

Joey B,

You are probably correct. That book may very well be where I read that info. And you are also correct as I have found many false bits of info in that book as well. It's been quit a few years since I looked through that book, maybe I'll use the next time I start a fire in my fireplace... It's feeling a little chilly this evening as a matter of fact! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Yes, thats a terrible book... i got it right after i bought my 69 SS396 El Camino and started taking everything as fact... my head was soon FULL of incorrect info... Just recalling, i remember several false "facts" including side stripes not available on 69 SS elcaminos, Daytona Yellow and Orange not being available on SS el Caminos, and the best one... a 4 spoke Oldsmobile steering wheel being shown as some "rare" 70 chevelle wheel...all those statements are 100% false, and are passed off in the book as fact. If you dont know what youre talking about, dont write a book on it!

See Tonyr's blown '69 on this site. Orange with black stipes. Looks great. The '69s I've heard of that "came with" stripes, were dealer installed. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum29/HTML/000790.html
