So,finally...I´ve saved money..sold my body (that gave least) left every bit of sense behind me (according to money will say)..i´m buying a new converter!
And i want a great one..not a good one.
You´ve probably read this several times but for the 3 guys that have not seen the spec´s..

-68 Nova..3650 lbs.

396" .060 over
Stock forged crank
3/8" (ARP wavelock)stock rods

Comp XR 274R mechanical roller (236/242...274/280...lift 639/646)
Comp 929 springs
Comp vertical bar lifters
Comp Hitech 3/8" pushrods

Dyno said..511hp@5650 rpm...530 ftlbs@4200 rpm
400+ ftlbs @ 3000 rpm

TH 350
Hughes GM 30

Monoleafs
12b/3.90 gear
Eaton Posi
Slappers
Koni SPA1 (f/r)

M/T ET-Drags 28.9.15"
1.66 60ft
7.42@92
11.69@115

Ivé calculated over and over...and from 115 mph,6500 rpm,3.90 gear and 89.49" in circumference (28" + an 1/2" in growth..28.5" x 3.14 = 89.49")..and i end up with 18.6% ! with my Hughes GM 30 i have now)

The GM 30 is rated at 3000 rpm stall...i don´t know what it stalls in my combo...maybe flashes 3500 ?
It seems my car is to heavy with too much power for the GM30?
My TH 350 is holding up good after 2 1/2 seasons / 100+ passes and the oil smells ok after each season...so i doubt it´s the 350´s fault.

My wish is to have about 6% ? or something in slipp at the big end..and lower my 60ft from today´s average of 1.68 (1.66-1.71 ! ) to 1.5x´s...and of cause make 60ft´s/ ET´s more stable!!!..
I´m tryín to footbreak/Bracketrace this thing..not so easy as it is now with 60ft´s/ET´s that vary from run to run

I want a converter (of cause) built for my combo.
One more thing..i sometimes race at "tracks" with very poor traction *cough* ...therefor i´m thinking "softhit"...bad thought?

So..Coan,ATI,A1,Hughes, other?...about 4000 stall softhit version?
If i must choose..i´ll choose traction and stable 60ft/ET´s in front of low 60ft´s.(As u can read i´m running 28.9" slicks in stock fenderwells)

An important thing is that because i live in Sweden..i really want it to be great from the beginning...cost´s money and takes time to send it back to the states for calibration!

Thought´s..recommendations please.
(Yes..i´m going to send some manufacture´s an e-mail with the spec´s...but i want racers opinions first)

Thanks Jimmy

I'd give all the big names a call and see what they say. I am very pleased with my 8" ATI MRT converter (thanks ken :waving:) I will never try another converter, hard to argue with 1.376 on worn out slicks. The key is to keep working on the suspension after you get the right converter, your car can be made to work with minimal track prep. After the backend is setup, start working on the front end.

vigg,
I think your post title is incorrect. Choosing a converter is not an art, it is a science. The converter manufacturers know what works, they should be the ones answering this question. Unless someone happens to have the same exact combination as you, its just a guess.

Just my opinion,

ATI Treemaster 8" for serious racers who see alot of track and 10" for milder combo's like mine.;) I like my 8" 4000 stall through 1/8 mile but for my rpm range its not working for my combo through the 1/4.

Ok,sorry for that.
But i think 99% here knows exactly what i´m looking for...which company should i e-mail/call for a really great converter for my car/combo and wishes!?

Spelling and grammatics? ..at least i´m not french ;)
