Was looking at the data sheet for the new "Deposit Shield" formula Havoline dino oil that is showing up in stores, and I noticed that they are claiming a nice dose of Zinc for the 10W-40 and 20W-50 grades (also straight 30W) - 1100 ppm. This is back at old API SH/SL levels. Could be an alternative for those worried about the new SM-rated diesel oils.
Go here and look at the PDS for "Havoline Motor Oil (Deposit Shield)":
LINK REMOVED. Data sheet can be found on Chevron website.

it's an oil designed for the millions of older vehicles on the road?
or is it marketed as a diesel oil?
and that link doesn't work for me. says it's timed out.

Well, the data sheet says it is suited for older vehicles. This is NOT a deisel oil... regular gasoline engine stuff. 1100 ppm zinc is pretty good, and on par with deisel stuff... more than in current PCMO 5W-30, anyway.
My $.02: I think the whole "zinc scare" is overblown anyway. For the average guy with moderate spring pressures and a cam that is not a super-agressive profile, I think a lot of folks are worried that "the sky is falling" for no good reason. API SM test sequence does include testing on GM flat tappet 3.8L engines. They couldn't label it SM if it didn't pass.

i somehow feel more comfortable with the valvoline VR-1 racing oil that will still retain the ZDDP it always did,and with a detergent package it's great for street use as well.a well proven product.
