I'm getting ready to take the body off of my frame. My car is 70 SS 396 4 speed. There are two body bolts missing. I believe the bushings are there. There are rubber plugs in the place of the bolts. One is on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. They are both the second bolt from the firewall, even with the middle of the door. Would the assembly line do this? The car was built in Dec. 69 in Van Nuys.

Yes the factory did that. At least on '69's they did. There are no bolts in those positions, just rubber cushions on the frame. I assume it's to let the frame flex independent of the body in the center of the wheelbase. The frame is pretty flimsy in that area, at least on hardtops and sedans.

Thanks Von. I thought it looked original. Do you know if there are nuts up there? Should I put bolts in when I replace the others?

I have a '72 Coupe with the same rubber plugs at the second mounting point. And on my body the nut is installed for that point, it just isn't used.

Good Luck.

I would leave it just the way the factory did it. It has to be that way for a reason.

My '70 was the same, just rubber bushings, no bolts, in that same location.
