: Which heads?
TXCR13 Feb 1st, 07, 11:34 PM Planning to put a 383 stroker in my 66 Chevelle which will be street driven only, performer manifold, 750 carb, 270 degree cam, 350 turbo transmission and 3:50 rear gears. Some of you gurus tell me what are the preferred steel heads and valve sizes for this setup.
Tks,
Steve

Probobly one of the best bang for the bucks out there. World Products should be able to drill the steam holes prior to shipment too if im not mistaken.

A 383 does not need steam holes , you are using a 350 Block not a 400.

ChevelleRob Feb 1st, 07, 11:46 PM How about some Bow Tie vortec's ??
JOHN WILSON Feb 1st, 07, 11:56 PM In no particular order, these are some of the heads I would consider, then let your budget narrow it further:
Vortecs
EBrock RPM 170cc
TFS small port 170cc
AFR 180cc
Edit: Oops, just caught the part about iron heads. In that case, check out the vortecs, and Dart Iron Eagles in a 180cc version. 2.02/1.60 valve size is plenty.

Geezzz, I must have saw what I wanted to see cause I read 383 not 400 but my mind thought "406" for some reason.:p Thanks for the correction.
usmcanglico Feb 2nd, 07, 1:44 AM I'm running Dart Iron Eagle 200/72cc but avoid angle plug set up.
mgt999 Feb 2nd, 07, 10:42 AM Brodix IK 200 is budget friendly and high quality.

I agree , with my dealings with World products , I would go with the Iron Eagles also . Header choice sucks when you go with angle plug issues . Dart and World heads are close in comparison when you are selecting a racing style cast iron head .

RATtyCamino Feb 2nd, 07, 1:18 PM Edelbrock RPM's or Dart Pro I 180's. If you want to spend a little less and don't mind Iron...then go with the Iron eagles, sportsman II's or vortecs.
Bill
Jason Snyder Feb 2nd, 07, 1:27 PM you really dont need any more than the standard vortecs. the cam is only a 270 .
TXCR13 Feb 2nd, 07, 11:44 PM Tks, Jason. Will they fit my 1972 350 engine? I havent used vortecs before, so not sure.
Tks,

fabio Feb 3rd, 07, 4:07 PM the dart iron eagles are the best bang for your buck that aerohead racing sells for 625 a pair. These work just as well as the vortecs. If you use the vortecs you have to upgrade the springs, now you have machine the valve guides, drill and tap plus put in screw in studs, use a vortec specific manifold, and self aligning rockers. All this adds up to the price to just run these heads.
