Well here we go on a 66 chevelle, all mounting bolts are loose and I have the front blocked up and the rear axel on floor stands to provide some clearance, with the inner fenders removed for access to the mounts at the firewall. How do I raise one side of the body to replace the bushings and not get the body all bent out of shape? Anyone done this before on a 66? Photos would be great.
Thanks, Jim

I recently did this on my '68 El Camino, but the same should work on your car. I took a long 4x4 piece of lumber and cut a "channel" down it's length. I put this 4x4 between a floor jack and the rocker of the car, with the pinch weld sitting in the "channel". This distributes the load across a very large area and I had no bending or denting. Does my description make sense?

I removed the bolts on one side, the other side loose. Used a 2x6 on a floor jack under the ribs in the floopan. How about the core support bushings? Are they loose? My front end was off so not a problem for me. You don't want to torque your front fenders out of shape.

I did the same as Finally. I removed the bushings on one side (both sides above the axle) and loosened the other side. Then raised it a bit with a 4 ft long 4x4. No problem.

I have the radiator support bushings loose; but I would like to keep the front clip on. I think its a good idea to take out both bolts on the mounts up near the springs. When using the 2x6 under the floor pans did you shim under the floor braces? How do you think I can raise the front clip along with the rest of the body? A jack under where the inner fender and everything else bolts together and raise it along with the other jack? Probably should take out the battery?
