I'm looking for a 3.562" stroke crank for my chevy small block 350. I saw this one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320049389480
has anyone here used one of these? any remarks on quality? where it is made?
Thanks.

cheap, think that might be clue for the origin? look at the guy's other auctions, he's got ebay stores set up for manifolds, balancers, etc. not a recognizable name in the bunch.

IOW, this guy is dumping cheap China crud on the market. Those China vendors rip off the designs of US companies who spend the money to do the R&D to develop quality parts. AFAIC, every time somebody buys that stuff it's another nail in the coffin of the American hot rod parts industry. But hey, it's cheap.

it's cheap
And inexpensive too!!!

Actually, you don't usually get what you pay for, and that goes DOUBLE on eBay. The REAL rule is, you get AT MOST what you pay for, and usually less.

So. You buy the cheeeeeepest thing there is, right? Then the BEST you can hope to get, is the cheeeeeepest thing there is. And most of the possibilities are downhill from there.

My Grandmother used to say,"The cheapest is the best." She didn't build engines!

There are two kinds of cheap: the kind of cheap brought about by mass production of a good product, like SCAT, or the mass production of an inferior product like the Proform Rod Balancer. (I know, I pick on Proform too much.)

American production quality has benefited immensely from technology that has trickled down from the Aerospace and Defense industries. Most on this forum are not old enough to remember the kind of cheap and useless junk that came out of Japan after the Second WW. A lot of what is coming out of China today is of the same quality. NEVER let price be your sole determinate in buying engine parts. We have been making engine parts in America for over a hundred years. Why would you buy from someone that has only been doing it for five years? Do you really think they would be better quality?

By the way, Toyota is recalling 500,000 vehicles for defective air bags. Does that sound like strict quality control? Wouldn't you think they would have noticed something after just a 100,000 bad air bags? (Hope I put this in the right post. Duh!)

I also need to ask, why are you going to the trouble to use a 3 9/16" stroke crank when you can add a 3/16th" stroke and have a cheap, dependable setup? Why pay more money for 20 less cubic inches? If you are concerned about cheap, then your build is a sophistry! Build a 383 or 406 and have some SB fun and save money. Unless there some reason to build a 358" engine, like some class limitation, build a 383 or 406. You will be much happier with the results.

I thought of the possibility that this thing could be made at the same factory as Eagle, or whatever else. Looks like Scat parts are made in USA, I'd like to go there. Unfortunately, they only make a $600 forged version of the 9/16" stroker crank, and I'm not building a thousand hp tractor pull engine, I would buy the cast version today if it was available. but you're all probably right, that ebay thing is probably made at a second tier manufacturing plant in China... long live American manufacturing!

There are multiple reasons why I'm looking for this 3.562" stroker crank.
By changing just the crank and nothing else (no other mods)...
1) It would up my CR ratio to where I want it now (my pistons are forged and new, don't really want to buy new ones)
2) It would reduce the quench height from .064" to .035"
3) absolutely least importantly: I gain ~8 cubic inches, big whoop, but I'll take it
anyone know where is the best deal to get the scat crank? Their part # is 435030.

You can get your present crank offset ground to 3.562 stroke, and use early style rods.

that little 3 & 9/16 stroker used to be very popular. Much water undr the bridge since then. A little surprising to hear of anybody doing this today.
I *think * I still have a set of Carrillo small journal rods packed away somewhere.

Unless that engine has still has the hone marks in the cylinder walls, you are going to need it honed to remove any ring wear. Reply please:
