I Have The Rocker Moldings, But No Clips , How Many Clips Are There On Each Molding, I Have To Order Clips" But Don"t Know How Many; My Car Does Not Have Holes In The Rockers To Give Me An Idea;;;

I would count the holes in mine or look in my manual if I were at home, will take a look after work. Why don't you call the guys at Ground Up or NPD or wherever you plan to order the clips and ask them first.

The 65 uses 2 long brakets on each side of the car, that screw to the rocker panels, about 3 holes per braket. Then the mouldings snap over the long brakets.
However, in 66 GM went to separate clips with one screw holding each. I know because I took them off a 66 wreck some time ago thinking I might need a few.
Then when I bought my NOS rockers, GM put the individual clips and screws in a bag with the new rockers. Same as the 66 style, even tho the rockers are for 65. So I think you call this a parts change up.
If you want, I can look in the assembly manual and find out how many screws they show holding the brakets. However I am pretty sure it is six per side.
If parts books from the usual vendors dont list clips for the 65, buy the ones for the 66 they should work fine.

Early '66 also used the two brackets per side instead of seperate clips. I know, I recently removed them from my 10/65 mfg wagon.
BTW...how long are the '65 rocker moldings from angled tip to the end??
I'm wondering if they are the same length as a '66.

I believe it's 6 per side. You could put on more it wouldn't hurt . The separate clips don't hold nearly as well as the longer brackets do. If you can get your hands on long brackets, thats the way to go.

Wild Bill, I just measured my original rocker mouldings off my 65 coupe SS. They are 79.5 inches from angled tip to end, the longest measurement possible. How does that compare to the 66 rocker moldings?

Thanks Marley!! :thumbsup:
You just proved my suspicion. The rocker trim on a '66 Malibu wagon was used on a '65 SS. My original trim, with only two ribs running the entire length on the upper edge, removed from the '66 measures exactly 79.5" :cool:

I've never found that to be true, both work equally well in my experience. If the individual clips aren't installed at the right locations or not screwed down tight they won't work well, but the same is true for the long brackets. Whichever is used, you need to install the clips/bracket high enough so the moulding firmly snaps under the edge of the clip/bracket. Once the lower tabs are screwed down, that moulding isn't going anywhere.
