I Am going nuts.:clonk: My kids car keeps dieing I took it to the gm dealer and it never failed. but they recommend replacing the crank pickup. So I did the old one was all cracked up. Well I thought I had it. Then she calls to day and it died on Her again. If she waits a minute or so she can start it back up and it will run fine for a wile then some time it will happen again. I have replaced the computer gave it a tune up. I am lost this is just a beater but it still needs to get here back and fourth. Any ideas would be great. :clonk:

The ignition module could be on it's way out.

had a similar problem with my 87 carburated accord... it would stall out while cruising.. id pop it in neutral and restert.. id be good for another 5 minutes.. i replaced the distributor, fuel pickup, plugs wires, all filters.. and still had the problem.. im suspecting vapor lock.. next is the fuel pump if i ever decide to get the car back on the road..

I have replaced the exhaust on the car and no exhaust pipe by the gas line.
The fuel pump is something to think about. In the past when I have fuel pumps go they just go and thats is it, DOA

First check fuel pressure to if its correct. You may have to replace the injectors. When they start drawing to much current (when they get clogged pulse width keeps getting longer and longer till they draw to much) the computer shuts them off. Usually the car won't start right away, wait a few min till they cool and the engine will start again. They can be tested (with a ohm meter when it won't start) to see if they are in spec.

is the 89 fuel injected? if so the fuel pressure should be high enough where it shouldnt be possible for vaporlock i think thats more of a carburated problem where youre running 7 or less psi. fuel injection uses high pressure.. im a gm tech and i asked around the shop today and everyone told me check the crank pickup but since you said you replaced it its kinda hard to say.. like previously stated ignition module might be on its way out.. check the wires that go near the exhaust manifolds make sure nothing is burned through.. is the ignition coil hot when the car dies? possible internal short, when it heats up resistance goes down..
