When i started my resto i was planing to convert to an andover seatbelt,But know that i am getting close to the end i am starting to have second thoughts. I still have the original harness type belts. My first thought was i would never use the original belts because they are bulky and too hard to put away, Any thoughts or comments regarding this subject. Thanks

I used the Andover Auto modern-style seatbelt system on my '72 Chevelle SS. In fact, they lifted images (w/o asking me...) off my website that show the belts in my finished interior, and have them on their site. I like them very much, easy to install with no mods to car, and cheap...$144 for a pair back in 2002.

I have them an love them. I feel alittle safer with up to date 3pt seatbelts.

Before I got too deep into the "original restored" syndrome ;) , that's what I had in my '68. The Andover's are much more comfortable, in fact I don't wear my original shoulder belt. The originals don't allow your upper body to move forward without loosening or taking the belt off, and the buckle digs into my side  . Unless you're doing the original deal, I'd definitely go with the newer style belts.

My situation was a bit different as I have an El Camino. But with an El Camino it screams out for a modern 3-point setup. You can use the OEM shoulder attach point. You can mount the retractor low on the side panel. And you can the OEM floor mount, although it is not that good. I moved my floor mount back about 6" to give the lap belt a much better angle. I used Wesco belts but expect the Andover's are much the same. One of the features I really like about the Wesco is that the lap belt can be cinched with loose shoulder belt. A nice tight lap belt helps with that flat bench seat.
