Gentlemen,
As I am currently installing a 454 that came out of a chevy truck into my 71 Malibu, I have elected to retain the th350 transmission that originally came in the car. I have had it rebuilt and beefed up to take the additional hp, but that is not the issue. The 4 bbl quadrajet and the 454 engine were originally in a 79 Chevy truck and as everyone on this forum knows they did not put th350s behind the 454 motor. Therefore the carburator does not have the bottom half of the throttle plate lever that would accept the kickdown cable of the th350 transmission. Is there a way to adapt the carb to accomidate the kickdown cable or am I going to have to use another carb? I would prefer to use the carburator I have because it is newly rebuilt and it is paid for. If I must use another carb will I be relegated to use a sbc 4 bbl that was designed for a th350 and if so will that sbc carb provide enough air and fuel for the 454 motor?
I would be interested in hearing how others solved this problem.
Thanks,
farmbroker
