Talking about the shaft from column to steering box. Is the flange at the bottom of the shaft supposed to be pressed on to the shaft or bolted to the shaft to be a true ss? Mike at Year One looked it up but couldn't find any thing to confirm it one way or the other. Any help out there? Thank you, Lonny

Splined and bolted. Does not make a Malibu an SS however as this could have been changed out.

The difference is between big block and small block, not SS or not.

Sorry Dean, my bad. I keep forgetting that you could in fact order the 396/402 in something other than an SS so in fact you could have a Malibu with that shaft if it had the LS-3. Thanks for clarifying and watching my tail.

I wonder why they made a diff. shaft for big blocks? Anybody know?

The big block shaft has both lower and upper side of the rag joint removable so the steering shaft could be removed. Ask me how I know. Jb
