: 1968 Buick Interior Progress
Well I finally got some time this weekend and started taking apart the interior.. Thought I may find a broadcast sheet, but not yet.. Only place I have not checked is the headliner.. Any way I got an ACC carpet kit and Legendary Seat Covers. I had never attempted to swap out seat covers before, and you know what it wasn’t bad at all.. Right now I only replaced the upper rear.. The quality of the covers are excellent and look identical to the originals. I still have the buckets to do. The lower rear I may leave alone for now it is in excellent shape, just needs to be cleaned..
I was very happy to see how nice and rust free my floors were.. I also found an interesting decal on my rear door panels. They actually had a 13837 sticker on both sides.. I wonder why that was “SS” specific??
My camera was taking terrible pics in the sun, but I will try and take more the further I go. Here is a few and I have more in my showroom.

Knappy1 Feb 7th, 07, 5:27 PM Very Nice! If that is the first time for you to install seat covers you did a great job. Was it very difficult? I would like to try to do mine myself.
138car Feb 7th, 07, 5:57 PM I would guess the 13837 sticker was to tell line workers it was for a SS. The Super Sports with Buick interior shared the same as a Buick GS 35/400 . 300s and the like with Buick replacement got a more plane interior shared with plane skylark. Very nice work!

Yes it was my first time, and to be honest I was really afraid to get into it for what I paid for the covers and New Foam.. I would just suggest, take pictures, I used a paint pen to mark where all the existing hog rings were located.. TAKE YOUR TIME. I really think if you have mechanical skills, common sense, and a will to do so it can go fairly smooth. Do not try and rush, I did it all by myself and in some instances a 2nd hand would surely help.. I only ended up using the lower front foams for the buckets.. The uppers were in good shape and it would have been a lot more work to remove the upper foam from the frame.
Buckets are more difficult then the rear seat was, and I still have the lower rear to do, but it is in perfect shape and may leave it for now.. As you do your first bucket, you learn and can apply to the next… Just go for it.. I saved alot of money, and it's rewarding knowing I did it myself!
bubba68ss Feb 7th, 07, 6:49 PM i wish that site would have pictures...i'd have no idea what i was buying. i need the bucik interior also
Whiskey Feb 13th, 07, 4:38 PM I have an entire buick interior and am not going to use it. I am converting to standard ss interior. But I was thinking of recovering the back seat with standard cover. I assume the foam is the same. Because I dont want to buy an entire back seat. If you are interested in the rest of interior or parts pm me maybe I can help ya out. Dunno if it would be better or cheaper to buy whole back seat or recover mine? thx Bill

Bill.. I just thought of something.... scary in know:D
I dont think you can recover your rear seats with standard Chevelle Seat Covers.. The 68 "Buick" rear seat frame is narrower than the Standard Chevelle since the rear arm rest go all the way to the floor and the filler up the back. Any one else want to chime in?

Whiskey Feb 14th, 07, 7:01 PM UH OH!! really? well Can someone verify this. If so I guess I will be looking for a back seat. thx Bill
Ark68SS Feb 14th, 07, 7:09 PM Dave's right, the rear seat cushion and seat back are not the same as the standard interior. My seat cushion, measured at the bottom of the seat by the floor is about 57 1/2" wide. Yours will be about 4~5'' narrower.
