I have been struggling trying to get this Mig plug welding down. Finally after a few weeks of being stubborn, I decided to try the advice that MartinSr suggested by turning up the voltage on the MIG. I kept having issues with the bead not laying down flat. As soon as I cranked up the voltage it's like my brain finally understood what and how Mig welding was suppose to work.

Well, Here are the results: Much flater welds and great penetration, zero grinding required! I LOVE IT! THANKS!! Your How to's ROCK!

Here is a shot of the cab replacement I'm in the middle of:

Hey Jason, that's great! I know what it's like when it finally "clicks". I've also learned to gauge what I'm doing by the sound. It wasn't until I heard an experienced weldor MIG up my fuel tank sump that I heard what a proper bead sounds like. No sputter, no loud snaps, just a smooth sizzle-hiss-like sound that doesn't change that much whether you're welding thick or thin.

is that lower panel available in repop? Looks good. Jim

I tried the same thing. I was getting good full welds but was having trouble with the edges lifting. Hot and fast seems to help with that, and just "catching" the thinner top panel at the very end to complete the weld.

Brian's stuff has been really helpful.

Ya you can get it, Dynacorn makes the panel and it fits perfect if you can believe it. I got mine from NPD for about $90. After taking out the rear panel, that piece gets destroyed. So good thing they make another aftermarket piece.

SUPER, that looks like a long practicing pro did it!

Andy, you may find that the tip I have in this "Basics" on welding floors may be of help. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153957
