I bead blasted my backing plates the other day and all I can say is what a mess I made!!! I'm looking into a blasting cabinet. Something reasonable in size yet not to huge as those seem to cost more than I'll ever make in my lifetime. I've been looking at Harbour Freights online catalog, but I was wanting to ask you guys first where did you get yours and for how much? Or has anyone built one before? Thanks for the help!

I built mine out of a 55 gallon drum, a sandblast siphon gun, a small chunk of mr10 lexan, shoulder length blasting gloves and a 40 watt bulb and socket all for under 100 bucks however the Harbor Freight ones look to be a good deal and it won't take you two days to build

I built my own with a kit and plans. Here's a previous discussion with pictures:

Looks like my website is down right now, so check back later for the pics.

Jeff,
Thanks for the pics and I must say that over the last year and a half to two years I've enjoyed looking over the progress of your 'velle. I'm especially intrigued at the custom a/c controls you installed and I'm wondering are those what came with the kit? Or did you fab that up some way? I would like to do a similar set up with mine. Thanks for the good website!!

Save your money on the Harbour frieght cabinet. I have one and the light inside burnt up within an hour, almost started a fire.I called and they sent another, same thing happened again. The cabinet is not sealed well so dust comes out of every seam.It could be made to work well with some mods but its pretty junky.

DITO on The Harbor Freight Job. I call it the "RED BOMB" The light SUCKS Re did with a 150 watt outside flood light fixture. and about two tubes of silicone caulk to seal it up. Then a new gun from TIP. It now works OK but could have spent the extra $$ and got a good one to start with !#$@#$@#%@#%

Gotta agree with the above about the Harbor Freight cabinet. It does require alot of modifications to work properly. Still I think I saved $$$ over what Eastwood or TIP sells. I paid around $80 for the cabinet and spent another $60 for a new gun and light and used a ton of sealant around the seams to keep the dust in.

If I had to do it again I would probably build one myself out of plywood and make it a little bigger.

Hey you get what you pay for

Another ditto on the harbour freight cabinet.
If you have a lot of blasting left to do, buy something that works, it'll save you a ton of time, otherwise I would try to build one.
