I have a old tach and will be buying one this off-season. I've looked in summit and there are too many to choose from. What is a good tach at reasonable priceto purchase? I have a 468ci 66 chevelle 4sp and it is a 90-10 street/strip and looking to shift more consistantly. I want a shift light and was wondering if there is any pros or cons to a separate light from the tach or is it more practical to get a one piece unit?

I like my Autometer sportcomp, with light... for the money. Sure a 300-400$ tach would bve nice, do I need it...not really. I think it really depends on what you want, and how you want it too look. Personally I wouldn't want a 5" tach in an everyday street car. But its nice in it applications (in my chevelle).... if shifting is all your after, I would get a shift light and mount it in the dash somewhere.

thanks, that's what I want are a couple names so when I'm shopping I won't be overwhelmed. I do want good looks also but the shift light was the key thing and since mine is old, I figured, now is my chance to get a new one.

I use a 3 5/8" Autogage tach, no shift light at all and have been the last 5 yrs of full time racing :D I had a 5" Autometer given to me, it worked for a couple weekends and quit on me, I just put the little tach back in. I have been considering a stand alone shift light though.

Yeah, thats the size I want because the 5" one just looks like it would be too gaudy. I want a shiftlight because of the change in gears from 373s to 411s and I know the shift point will come quicker than before and I don't want to over-rev it.
thanks
