Well there is like 6 things wrong with my passenger side door. It has a new skin put on and its not perfectly straight. I barely touch it and it gets dings in it, its a GM skin too. or a POS PART!!! My hinges are another thing im trying to line up here, I have my hood and my pass fender off, the door was off but its back on, I line it up and tighten everything down. One of the top bolts decides to break off at the head with the threads stuck in the hole. If I ever get this stupid thing straight im welding the hell out of it and never touching it again. This things getting a full weld job graemlins/angry.gif

Are you sure that your hinges are in working order? Replacing the pins and bushing in those is a easy 30 min deal and will make one HUGE difference in how that door closes.

I gotta ask how much torque you putting on that bolt if you are snapping it off. I would at least run a tap or tread chaser throu those holes to clean up the threads and even some new bolts wouldnt hurt either.

An easy to remove that broken bolt is remove the hinge if you can or remove the door again, place a nut over the broken bolt and weld the nut to the bolt. Gives you something to turn the bolt out with. By removing the hinge you would maybe gain some length of the bolt to weld into that nut, but mostly as they always do its broken right at the base of hinge plate. But still non the less Id weld a nut to broken bolt and back it out.

Does someone sell a hinge pin kit for a 66?

Ground up, NPD, just about all of the restoration mail order catalogs. I've even seen hinge pin kits at the local NAPA but don't know if they will work on your 66. Good luck, door alignment can be maddening!!

Not sure about the 71, but on my 66, if the bolt broke flat with the body, I can get at the backside of the hinge bolts from inside the car through the vent hole under the kick panel. If you can get at it, you should be able to unscrew it with vise grips (on the non-threaded portion so as not to chew up the threads) so you have more to grab on the outside where the hinge is.

don't weld the door hinge on, you'll be sorry. take the door back off and remove the broken piece of bolt. Run a tap through to clean up the threads. Rebuild the hinges if the pins and bushings are worn. Remove any seam sealer where the hinge attaches to the hinge pillar and also on the door if there is any. Sealer will often times make adjusting the hinges difficult. Remove the striker from the quarter panel and install the door and align it so it opens and closes smoothly with good alignment along the quarter and rocker, then reinstall the striker and adjust it. The door should not drag on the striker when opening. Apply new seamsealer where or if needed around the hinge mounting areas. Now you'll be ready for the fender. This stuff takes time, you either spend the time and do it once and right or live with the misalignment and sloppy hinge problems till things wear out or break. I've spent as much as 8 hours dealing with door alignment problems when a body was assembled wrong at the factory. Bob
