: Chevellabration 07 or Car Parts

I will be 50 in three months. My wife gave me the choice of going to
CB-07 or getting car parts. Both choices were not an option. Difficult choice to make as I'm working with the Chevelle now and never been to the greatest show in the world.
What do you think?

Hey Luis my guess would be if you showed up for CB07 you would have a great time. I would also guess you might a find a way to get the car done a little quicker to attned with it in 08.. Ask me how I know.

Hi Luis; tough choice uh? I would guess that if you need the parts because you already started the resto, maybe you will need them to get the car ready sooner. If you don't need the parts really fast, then go to Chevellabration, I am sure you are going to have a great time. Anyway, it's not an easy choice. Keep us posted with your car's progress.

I'd say get the parts, get the car done, then take the car to CB next year....it will still be there!!!

Tough call, but I would say go to CB07. You may find some good deals on parts there!! I was on my way there in 2001 until the Suburban broke down in Maryland, turned around and came home. We could have still went anyways, just without the Chevelle, would have still had a good time with or without the car. Looking back, I wish I had gone in 2001. I've gone every year since then :).

I was in your situation the past 4 out of 5 years. I have yet to take the car for one thing or another. My advice is to wait and take the car, it's fun looking at all the cars, meeting the people, but I would have had more fun if I took the Chevelle. This is my honest opinion, wait and take the car when you can.

I have to give my .02 as well. CB was an excellent time, one of the best I had in a long time. Looking at the same cars over and over and over again does tend to get a little old, the really great part for me was getting to finally put faces to the names of all the GREAT PEOPLE here on TC and spend a bulk of the nights shootin the bull with a bunch of them. I did however feel extremely awkward without my car.

A very personal type scenario I guess.. but I would say, if you have never been to TN, Do it.. Once is what everyone should experience.. but if you have been in the past, take the Parts.. there will always be another CB.. parts, they be getting more and more scarce

my first thought was "get the parts, go to CB08", then some people brought up a point.... buy parts there, so it goes back to my theory on buying stuff without the wifes knowledge

"Its easier to apologize than ask for permission"

either way, you're gonna get yelled at. If you ask, you get yelled at and have no parts. If you buy, you get yelled at, but you got your parts  ;)

The parts will help get the car ready so you can bring it to CB 08. Get the parts.

Go to CB. Once there the wife will get enthused about getting the car done and let you get the parts too.

I'll say Von has the answer. With 500 or so Chevells for her to drool over and all the great people she will meet, she will probability buy the parts for you so she can bring your chevelle to CB08.

It may sound cold, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, maybe that's the best answer. My wife went the first time 7yrs ago. Now, it's just my son and I who go and we have a good time. Sometimes I bring parts home, Sometimes I don't. She is usually understanding about that. I try to get her to go every year, but she feels if she's seen one, she's seen them all, so one CB was enough for her. NOT FOR ME THOUGH!

Truer words have not been spoken Von. I brought my wife to CB06 without our car, we had an absolute blast. Since then we have decided to get the car put back together so we can bring it to CB07. She has given me a budget to work with that I never would have gotten if it weren't for us going to CB06.

I to think it is a personal decision you need to make. Like I said, we had just an absolute blast at CB06 and we didn't have our car ready. CB is something that only lasts a few days, but the memories and friendships you form last a lifetime. On the flip side, if it helps you get your car back on the road, you will soon be making great memories in that as well.

For me the deciding factor would be what those parts would do for me. Is your car already driveable and roadworthy? If so, go to CB07. Are the parts you would get going to make it driveable and road worthy? If so get the parts. Would the parts just be more parts on the long road to getting the car roadworthy but still a ways off? Well then again I would say go to CB07.

Either way enjoy your birthday, you only get one a year:thumbsup:

JMHO, go to CB 07 and take your wife, maybe she'll get the picture, then get the parts for the car at a later date. You ready to pull the engine yet?

Leo, the car is apart. I removed the engine, tranny, mufflers, and gas tank. The front clip is also coming out in order to be able to lift the body to install the one piece floor pan. I'm waiting for my friend to finish his 69 Camaro. It's BBC, orange, with a 4 speed he is finishing to take it to an auction in Englishtown, NJ to sell it. As a Chevelle enthusiast I want both, but if I want to make progress in the restoration I also need the parts. I'm going to wait until the floor is installed and will make a decision then. I'm on stage one of the restoration. I want to do the floors, and completely detail the undercarriage along with the engine compartment. I want to buy the spiral schocks to make it look correct. Paint will be the second stage. Last stage will be the rest of the details such as interior and chrome. I'm giving my self about 6 years to complete. My wife also says, "Luis you alredy looked at that car, why are you looking at it again." If she only knew!!!
Are you attending the MCC meeting on Super Bowl Sunday? I might go and come back before the game. It's just one hour for me to get to Waldorf.

Luis,

I want to give you an FYI on the meeting date. It is on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd, not on Sunday the 4th. The listing in the newsletter was a result of a miscommunication. The correct date and time is on the website.

Better yet, I'm going to try and make it. I'll see if the wife wants to go, too. Mr. Fig said you were helping JJ with his car. What is the status of the car? Is he going with Turqousie?

Right now the body is almost down to bare metal. I put it up on my rotisserie last weekend. Next Saturday before the meeting, I'll be down there doing some more bodywork on it, maybe a little welding if I have time. I am going to be the one painting it sometime in the spring. I'll be hauling it up here to do it, I have access to a paint booth :D. The color will be Misty Turquois
