I need to know if there is a way to adjust the deck lid. When my deck latches it is not pulled down tight on the weatherstripping, therefore it leaks and rattles. I know that I can adjust the plate that the deck lid latches to, however, if I do that it will pull the deck lid all the way down to the bumper. Any help would be appreciated.

The mount holes in the hinges are slotted front to back and slightly oversized to adjust the lid to the opening. If your lid looks centered and at the proper height I would suspect that the weatherstrip is compressed too much.

Thanks Doc,
But, the deck lid is centered and at the proper height. The weather stripping is brand new Metro. The problem is that the deck lid latches before the deck lid is down foar enough. I wonder if there is a way to adjust the latching mechanism to where it engages later.

The problem is that you have new rubber. The lid is very hard to close, but at the same time doesn't go down far enough to be even with the tops of the quarters right?
The new rubber is holding the lid up. Have you tried to bring the striker down? If you have, put it back to where it was before you changed the rubber. Then leave it that way for a week or two and see if it has compressed the rubber and came down. At that point you may need to bring the striker down a little to compress the rubber more.

Thanks Martinsr,
However, my problem is just the opposite. my deck lid closes very easily and is lined up with the quarters. The problem is that when closed the deck lid is not pulled down tight. The deck lid rattles and the weatherstrip does not seal. Any thoughts?

At this point I would be wondering if you have the correct weatherstrip for a Chevelle.

I can't imagine that happening! I am with Doc, either it is the wrong one or it is installed wrong.
Really, I have never seen that happen, the stock one is usually smashed down MUCH tighter than any repro or even NOS GM one. When you install the new one the darn trunk hardly closes!
I just installed NOS in mine and it took a few weeks before the lid opened and closed without fighting it.
