Where can I find a list of what the suffix letters mean on a quadrajet?

Do these letters identify something about the car it was from?

7040204 "FF" and 7040200 "EE" - Is there a site that decodes these?

I've never been able to find anything on the web about them other than they are 'Customer Codes'. What 'customer' is beyond me as I've seen the same code (FF) on Atlanta and KC 396s & 454s. ??

If anyone has an idea I'd appreciate the post as well. :)

I can’t find the ”FF” or “EE” customer code decode but my book shows both carburetors to be for a 70 Chevrolet, Chevelle, Nova, Camaro or Corvette – 396, 400 & 454 automatic – (non California)

Actually those are what the GM divisions referred to as broadcast codes and by customer they mean, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac, etc

Those codes would be on the parts and that how the line workers knew what part to use.

My L34 quadrajet(7040504) code is "FR" which matches block 18 (carb) on my build sheet. It is a 70 LA built car. So if nothing else the codes are good for "numbers matching" data.

Each and every Quadrajet is assigned a two digit letter code, and that code appears on the build sheet. The Holley carbs have them to, as do many other parts. Alternators were ink stamped whith there two letters, starters for some reason used the last three digits of the stamped number. These letter codes were used to kind of "idiot proof" the assembly of the car. It is much easier to get the right carb on the car using a two digit letter code than trying to read or remember a seven digit part number. I have records of some carbs as far as what codes they carry. The examples stated above are correct. I know in Chevrolet-speak they call them customer codes, I presume because to Rochester, Chevrolet assembly (their 'Customer" in this case) required them to stamp them with a code to identify them. I have taken to calling them build sheet codes, cause that is essentially what they are.
Hope this helps you better understand.

I also have a 7040204 FF on my 70 L34 Th400 Leeds built car and the FF matches the build sheet box 18. Is yours for sale?
