Wrong!!!!! Strikers were painted body color also. Bodies were painted with the doors and deck lids installed, strikers and latches in place. The screws securing the latch mechanism are body color, so the latches had to be installed prior to paint. Strikers were painted as well although most of it may have worn off over the years. I have an original paint 70 convertible as proof.

I would agree with Mike, I also have had plenty of original paint cars and the strikers were always natural.

and people wonder why all the old guard around here disappear....not sure who you are, but by the title and attitude/tone..obviously a KID.

There is no need for such attitude and exclamation points here, if you have something valuable to share, do it and feel free to share your reasoning. Have you torn apart and restored multiple 66 and 67 SS cars? Do you have 100's of photos documenting original unrestored 66 and 67 SS cars? If so, by all means, share with me this information and so I can learn. I would also guess that all the national and regional judges have been judging my cars incorrectly, as well as the many other 66 and 67 SS original restored cars....Guess I will be happy for the points I stole tongue.gif

Hey "Mystery", No need for a personal attack or Name Calling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just stating a fact on the painting process.
I've been a National Judge on Chevelles and had deducted points to the owners of cars with painted strikers only to be corrected for doing so by the Senior NCOA Judge Jeff Dotterer. Maybe Jeff is wrong? Maybe 66-67 Cars were painted different?

I too have disassembled and restored many original cars. Maybe your an expert, but a man you are certainly not for the offensive remarks you made toward me on this board.

There was no attitude on my behalf, but is quite apparent on yours. I simply stated what I have observed on my car and other 68-72 GM A-bodies.

I did not brag about all my research photos nor do I have a book on 66-67 Chevelles. Maybe you should look at the original question. Note he did not mention a year for his Chevelle in his post.

Remember this is only a hobby and don't get so hot over a simple answer.

Now I have an "ATTITUDE" toward you for acting like a "KID" that got his feelings hurt.

Sorry to all who had to listen to this personal attack, but look back at my previous reply and tell me if I started it. Then read Mystery's reply.

Okay Kid..I am Man enough to admit that I over-reacted, but you have to admit that your response, right on the heals of mine could have been a bit more diplomatic...not just "WRONG!!!!"

I answerd Tony's question based on the knowledge that he is finishing up his 67 from his signature and recent posts for other questions......and yes, my research has shown the 66 and 67's got hinges body paint, strikers and SCREWS did not. and again, that is for 66 and 67 SS, I do believe, based on previous conversations we have had on this site, that 68 and up where different...I distinctly recall this, so again, my response is based on 67, and yes, agreed, if you didn't know what year he was talking about, that might be hard to answer...but you have to agree that you were answering based on 68 and up, so yes, easy mistake.

I do have to say though, you mention that the HEAD/CHIEF Judge, Jeff D ( we all know Jeff ) pointed out that you were deducting points inaccurately, and yes, that doesn't mean Jeff HAS TO BE RIGHT...but he was the Chief.

Well, suffice to say...my apologies to you for overreacting...I guess in the future, we would all be better served with just saying something like" " I am sorry Bob or Joe, but I have to disagree" Just writing WRONG!!!! comes off in a bad way, at least it did to me... carry on Team Chevelle, and Tony....you decide based on whatever you want, what is Correct, here you only got a few responses, and that is far from majority.

Thanks for the apology Mike. I meant no harm when I responded to your first reply.

We are all in this hobby together and can learn a lot from everybody on this board.
Sorry for heated reply above, but I felt a little stepped on by your remarks to being a "Kid". I am 41 years old so I guess I'm not a kid anymore.

66 & 67 strikers were "naked", also had a clear plastic washer under the metal washer to body. They got lazy in later years, and slopped paint all over everything.
Agree---!!!!!!!!!!!!! should only be used in a friendly, not authoritive manner.
Electronic relationships can be very fragile. Kinda like road rage, the most innocent actions can be easily misinterpreted.

Thanks for all the answers and I guess I should have specified the year. I am completing the 67 as mysterychevelle alluded to. I also have been the recipient of other member's knowledge, and I try to share mine when I can. And as the "kid" said we are all in this hobby together. I'll post color pictures in my sig file when I get the color in in a few weeks. Thanks again.
