Hi, my heat doesnt work. I have replaced or adjusted anything that has to do with the heating system to try to get my heater to blow out hot air. It doesnt blow out hot air only cold so i am guessing my core is plugged. I tried taking off the cover as i just got my new core and i am running into some problems. According to the manual there are two screws and 5 nuts i have to take off to get the cover off. I was only able to take off 4 nuts which leave the screws and 1 more nut. The thing is i dont think i can access the screws holding the rest of the cover on. According to the manual they are located by the blower which is kind of tucked up under my fender well. I tried to see if i could pull something off inside the car and i found nothing, anyone know how to get the cover off? thanks

1st thing. Are both heater hoses as warm from the engine side as the heater core side? 2nd, have you tried removing the hoses at the pump and intake and flushing the core out? If water runs through the core, not plugged, there should be warm coolant running through the core.

If the core is plugged, the best way to gain access to the blower bolts, is to remove the passenger inner fender. This will allow you to see the bolts and nuts you are trying to get to. There may be 12 or more bolts holding the inner fender on.

As Ed said, there are some nuts that can't be accessed without taking the inner fender out, unless you have a lot of patience or very, very small hands. :) I did this a while ago on my '69, and removing the inner fender was time well spent, IMO. I have read about people just drilling out the "hard to get to" studs from the inside, but that's not really something I would recommend.

ive flushed the system twice, with no difference in the heat. All the hoses seem warm but i dont recall if they were the same. I took off the inner fender. I still have 1 bolt holding on the cover but i was able to turn the cover so now i can acess the heater core. I just cant figure out how to take it out. Just kinda seems like it is floating where it sits. Any idea's? the manual doesnt help much. Do i have to take off any cables or anything? Thanks for any help.

A trick is to remove the 5th bolt, then replace it with a big sheet metal screw from the inside. Since you can't see it it will look stock. I have pretty small hands so I only had to remove the back and top inner fender panel bolts and was able to get the fifth bolt out. It is easier to get the core in and cables hooked up with the glove box out. Are your flapper doors opening ok??

I have just removed the rear inner fender bolts and pulled the rear part down enough to get to the nut. I`ve done this 2 times now and never had to remove the inner fender all the way.

ya, i left the front few bolts on as i was able to reach the screws without taking the whole fender off. The flap was not working originally but it just needed an adjustment and it worked great. I drove the car to work yesterday and the heat is nice and warm. it definately beats blowing cold air on the windshield to keep if from frosting up. Thanks for all your help!!
