Yes... Ditto.. I have heard of some people having issues with the material hardening in the can after opening.. but most supply shops will replace if it's a reasonable amount of time!

I used a couple quarts.
Very good product.
Here are a couple of pointers that will make it easier to use.

1. Make sure you get a fresh can. It should be a very low consistancy, almost like pudding.

2. Mix up small batches at a time.

3. I used a metal drywall knife to put the stuff on. It left a smoother finish than a cheap squeegee.

4. I sprayed a light coat of sand and fill primer over the all metal about 15 min. after I put it on. This was so I had an even surface for a guide coat and when I started sanding, the all metal did not load up the sand paper.

5. Do not put the stuff on any thicker than absolutly necessary. It does shrink over time. I have a couple spots that have sunken just a little, but they are not real bad. Most people don't even see them unless I point it out. And I try not to. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Good luck.

SS Dave - Could you elaborate on the sand?

Thanks,

SS Dave: could you also elaborate on the shrinkage?
How long did this take to shrink?
Do you think it would be better to let it air out before applying the primer?
I have allways waited until the next day before putting anything over filler, because I have heard they need to "gas out". I am afraid by sealing the filler it may trap the gas inside thuss causing it to slowly shrink as it evaporates?
If All-Metal shrinks, then do all fillers shrink? What type is best to use? (that wont absorb water)
I have been using All-Metal and havent noticed any shrinkage, but if it does I will grind it out and start over. Mabe you cant tell untill its to late?
Any help?????
thanks T.C.

I don't like it personally.I use Duraglass over all my patches. Its waterproof and super strong. It doesn't shrink and is easier to work with. The All-Metal liquid hardener sucks,if i have to use All-Metal(at work) i use the cream hardener.one thing i don't like about All-Metal is that because of the silver color its impossible to judge the amount of hardener you have in it and if its thoroughly mixed. It doesnt change color when you add hardener like regular fillers.I've mixed it and applied it more than once only to have found out that i didn't put enough hardener in it,(seems to need more than regular filler)then have to grind it out and start over http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gifI kind of think that the All-metal is a physcological thing, like its better than regular mud because its got real metal in it and its not such a sin to use it. A lot of people use it and like it,this is just my opinion.

Iv'e used it on A-pillar seams and had great results, haven't noticed any shrinkage. Most of the new polyester premium grade fillers such as "Rage" claim there's no shrinkage. I top coat the all-metal with a polyester filler to achieve a finer finish. I agree not to put too much all-metal filler on because it's very tough to sand. Mike, M22

Body fillers do shrink alittle but not enough to cause concern. The shrinkage people are seeing is not in the fillers but in the primer. Primer shrinks more then you think, to see how much it really shrinks mix up a batch and leave it in the container that you mixed it in. Then come back the next day and you will be amazed how much the primer shrinks. To get around this you need to let the primer sit and fully cure and shrink. Leaving it sit around a week before you start to sand it will stop any future shrikage problems. The last coat of primer right before you paint the car let the primer sit two weeks the longer the better. That might seem strage but I know a few restortion shops that let their primer sit up to a month before sanding.

SS dave,I think your shrinking problem is your primer, not the All-Metal.Fill and sand is a laquer based prim. That shrinks BIG TIME!Thas why everyone is using the newer 2K urethane primers, they dont shrink as much

I know thats true about the Sand-n-Fill, I painted a hood using it,even put Duont sealer before the bc/cc.
Looked great the next day!!! BUT two weeks later you could see every sand scratch and flaw I had covered with the high build junk.
As for fillers isnt it better to apply it in thinner layers rather than applying it thicker anyway?
I have also heard the Duraglass doesnt stick as well as the All-Metal, is this true?

I've used Duraglass and AllMetal, I like them both.

70isfine, have you found that the duraglass a bit hard to sand to be using it all over? I thought the AllMetal was much easier sanding. Maybe it's just me. I could be wrong but I think it says right on the Duraglass can that AllMetal is waterproof as well. And I didn't think you could use anything else than that acid hardener with it?

Not trying to slag you about it, just curious.

I sand the duraglass before it sets up to hard with 36 grit, let it harden then i go to regular filler .If you wait for it to get hard its very hard to sand.Sometimes i let it harden up,then whack it down with a grinder or mudhog.I'm not sure about the hardener, cream hardener hardens it,not sure about the benfit of the acid hardener.

I heard it referred to as "acid hardener", this probably isn't correct if you never heard of it Martin. I didn't know that you could substitute regular creme hardener for it either.

What filler do you use out over the Duraglass 70?

70isfine
Nov 14th, 01, 7:13 PM
Its liquid hardener,I don't know about the acid part.I either use Rage Gold or Everflex(Evercoat product)

You know, Liquid hardener is MEKP or Methl ethel keytone poroxide (not spelled correctly) and it is not the same as cream hardener. Now, I can't say what is the difference, I don't remember, but I studied the MSDS sheets one time and they did not match, not even close. So I recommend that the proper hardener is used with each product.

I have used All Metal and it is a good product.
