I bought a 12 bolt posi 4:11 for my 68 Chevelle last summer . Complete unit drum to drum. $1200. Southern California. Seemed to be about the going rate for a bolt in. I've seen them a lot cheaper at the swap meet, but they always needed either the posi or the ring and pinion. It all depends on how much you want to do to it. What gear ratio are you looking for?

I put a 68 Olds 442 rear in a 72 Monte that I had about 15 years ago and it bolted right in. Could possible look into those since the Monte and Chevelle are both A bodies.

I saw one at a swap meet for a 66 and they wanted $1200 for it as well.

actually any A body 12bolt will fit right in there. other than the yoke for the u'joint it should be the same 64-72 i believe that 68 to 72 is a little wider by not quite an inch. but dont quote me.

65 66 and 67 12 bolts are a direct replacement.
68 thru 72 will bolt in but are one inch wider (1/2 inch per side)
If your tire/wheel combination will allow the wider rearend you can use any of them.

65 thru 67 12 bolt are rare and are usually more expensive.

Do you have a 12 bolt now? If so, rebuild it with a new posi unit, new bearings and new gears if you want. It may cost $1000 or $1200 but you then know what you have with any gear ratio you want.
