I am wanting some proffesional advice on mig welding on new quarters. The quarters I have go over the top body line by about an inch, and in to the door jamb maybe a half inch or more. From start to finish what procedures should I take. I am also have new outer wheel houses. The body is off the frame and on sawhorses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First things first. You NEED to place the body back on the frame...period, no if's and or but's!! Removing any piece of weled on metal off the frame can run the risk of the car body twisting out of shape. Althou there are some expections to the rule, this is not one of them. Hopefully you didnt start cutting out the old quarter, if you have please dont remove any more metal. You need to place the body back on the frame. The fraem supports the body in ways sawhorses or whatever only dream about, without the proper support, like mentioned before you can damage the car very badly.

your doors and decklid should also be installed or at least used for a check fit during the quarter install. the quarter panels you have are not dimensionally correct in that they were stamped alittle large to fit over the existing quarter-something the overseas facilities do to help out the backyard installers. These quarters can be installed without lapping the original if trimmed and fitted properly. I usually do not use the part that laps into the door jamb-instead I trim that part off and scribe the existing quarter for a perfect butt weld. Usually the wheel opening flange is wider than stock and must be trimmed to proper size. Is it necessary to use the complete panel? How much corrosion or collision damage is on the panel? performance auto body (http://hometown.aol.com/hollinsheads/myhomepage/business.html)
