Just took seats out of a 66 Malibu and curious how to begin the restoration. The mounting brackets were all there and still in good shape. The metal back and sides were covered with surface rust.
I removed the metal pieces and wire wheeled them, I media blasted the tracks while still on the seat lightly to remove the surface rust. My plan is to take the seats to my local upholsterer and have him finish the stripping, while I paint the metal pieces.
Any suggestions??

Typically us upholsterer's don't have blasting cabinets in our shop and we don't really like to spend a lot of time blasting seat components because we have to deal with a bunch of seats and other stuff on a daily basis...my suggestion is to clean up your metal real good...note what springs are broke and what parts your seats are going to need...supply all this stuff...take it to your upholstery guy or gal whatever the case maybe and have them put it together for you...or try to do it yourself..it is hard but it is not hard if you take your time and use your noggin...there is a lot of help here...study yourself up and good luck...you can do it buddy:thumbsup:

I used glass bead on the metal sides and backs, then painted with Rustoleum Professional semi gloss black. Parts turned out near perfect. On the tracks, springs, etc. I cleaned where necessary and used Boeshield for protection. You could also use a clearcoat.
