Hey Guys,
I am in the middle of restoring the entire engine compartment. I have everything, besides the engine, from the firewall forward off the frame, except the bumper. Any ideas on how to loosen the bolts that connect the bumper to the frame. Please keep in mind that my tools are limited to a manual rachet and socket.
Thanks,
The Reaper

If all else fails... Use the Heat Wrench http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif A propane torch will work wonders on a hard to loosen bolt.. If not soften it up enough to break easy http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif good luck

Soak em, heat em, beat em.
Put penetrating oil on em, heat the heck out of em, put WD40 or similar on while hot (caution some of this stuff is flammable), tap em with a big hammer, then put the breaker bar to em - with an extension if needed.
PS http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gifon't use your wifes vacuum cleaner extension tubes for a breaker bar extension or they won't fit together again. You can ask my wife![But it did work well] http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

All good advice above. But if they are as rusted and frozen on as mine where, even if you can break them loose you may not be able to get the nuts completely off. I ended up grinding the heads off the bolts(carefully, as not to damage the bumper) and knocking them on thru. I wished at this point that all of them had snapped off like the first one. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif It would've been much easier. Good luck!

I found that on my 65 El Camino the bolts were welded together! it was really hard to see the weld. so cut`em if you got`em.

When the threads are all rusty like deejay said, I've taken the bolts off by turning them to the right!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif
Using a long breaker bar, sometimes it's easier to snap the bolt than to fight the nut off a rusty bolt.
Watch you knuckles though.
