I have a twin to your malibu it sounds like, i have a fathom blue with white stripes one as well.

Don't think they were available on the regular Malibu although there is a Mallibu 400 that the owner claims had them.

It also shows RPO LS6 450-HP TURBO-JET 454 V8 $263.30. But you could only get that if you ordered the RPO Z15 SS 454 EQUIPMENT $503.45 . So its reasonable to believe that RPO D88 could only be ordered with either RPO Z15 or RPO Z25

Nope, the stripes were an option. In fact, the basic SS package did NOT include stripes. Stripes were included if the cowl induction hood was ordered, however.

I have seen Malibu's and standard El Camino's with the stripes on them. The El Camino was a 1 owner and he ordered it with the stripes. The salesman told him if he ordered the stripe option it would come with the domed hood. It did not, and he wasn't happy with the looks of the stripes on the flat hood but kept them anyway. The paint is faded but all original and I did not see anything on the cowl tag indicating any color other than the mist green.

It was a 1970.

Stripes available standard with cowl induction hood (ZL2). Optional with SS package (Z16) as D88 with regular domed hood.
