Should I straighten and rechrome my bumpers or just buy repro's? (65 2 door) How good are the rero's?

This is just from my own experience, but it was going to cost more for me to rechrome bumpers than buy new ones. I'm fairly sure the repro's are just as good as originals.

I'm fairly sure the repro's are just as good as originals.???? I'm sure repops are NOT the SAME as OEM. Good is an opinion.

Just pick a repop up and then pick up an OEM bumper.....Feel the difference in weight.

That's #1.

Ever see any repop bumpers after 3-4 years? The thinner bumpers can rust out and loose the luster even if the car is a garage queen. Not saying a rechrome job won't loose it's luster, but I have never seen one rust out.

That's #2

But you are right in that repops are CHEAPER than rechromed. Thats about where you can draw the line.

Thanks for the replys. Another thought I had was if I want to detail the sharp edges of the bumper or make any other mods such as "smoothing the bolts" then re-doing the originals makes even more sense. I'll let you know what I do.

Ive asked around about rechroming mine. I have some minor dents on my bumpers and it will still be there after rechroming. It's $250 for each or $450 for both to rechrome. I believe it's a lot cheaper to just get the repos.

65 repops are not as good as some of the later model repops. I'd go rechomed over reproduction any day graemlins/thumbsup.gif . They're mostly made in Asia, by Asians graemlins/clonk.gif . I didnt know they were experts on reproducing quality Velle parts graemlins/sad.gif Speaking from experience, Im not impressed with many of the 65 reproduction parts.
Cheap is what you want ,cheap is what you'll get.
