Where do you hook up a multimeter to a HEI to check the rpm? Is it as easy as hooking up a wire to the "tach" terminal on the coil cap? Don't want to fry my multimeter so I thought I better ask before I do something stupid... :)

yep. .that's what the "tach" lead is for.
makes sense, eh?

Hehe... Yeah, but if you only knew how many times I have screwed up when taking things for granted, you would understand why I'm asking. :D
Thanks!

of course, the other terminal is labelled "BAT", but if you do run a wire straight to the battery, you will have a car you can't shut off..

Not if it's a ground wire :D

Please don't start that ground wire debate in my thread, Dean! :D
Yes, I have been wondering why the power feeet terminal says "BAT", instead of "IGN". I have heard some stories from people who have hooked it up to a constant 12V source and not being able to turn the engine off. I did get that part right though. ;)

Does the multimeter have a "tach" mode?
red wire to cap's "TACH" black wire to ground like Derrik said

Yes, the multimeter has a tach, so I'll just hook it up to the "TACH" terminal instead of the coil. Thanks for the replies!
