I am replacing the rear parking brake shoes on my truck so it will pass inspection. They let the truck move forward slightly when hitting the gas. (I know, that is their test). I am trying to get the caliper bracket bolts out and they are not budging. I pulled out my 1/2" air impact and that did not work either. Any other ideas on how to break these suckers loose? I am going to post over on Full Size Chevy to see if they know any tricks as well. Thanks.

Frank,
Sometimes I have good luck by hitting bolts with the impact on the "tighten" setting first, then go back to loosen. Hard to believe that the parking brake shoes are actually worn out .... sure its not an adjustment problem ??

The caliper bracket bolts have lock tight on them so they come off hard. I use a 1/2 ratchet with a cheater pipe over the handle for extra leverage and then use the impact.

I was successful. Through the use of penetrating oil and the ingenious use of a cheater bar and a jack :D .
Bill,
I had tried the tighten then loosen. It was the penetrating oil that helped most. Of course, now I have a ripping headache from the fumes from it :( .
Sure enough they only needed adjusted, even though the owner's manual and Chilton manual I have say they are not adjustable.
All is one with the world again. Thanks for the help.
