does a base 325 horse 396 from a 66 have chrome air cleaners or the black snorkle type

I think they had the black air cleaner with orange valve covers. One reason being that
chevy thought it was real big jump in performance going to the 360hp motor plus making it look like you got something extra
for buying that optional motor.

My 66 Chevelle with the 396/325 had chrome valve covers with a twin snorkel black air cleaner with a chrome cover. Big ugly air cleaner. This car was factory original so I'd assume they were all like this. tom

Should be the black base, single snorkle, chrome lid air cleaner for the 325. The 360HP and 375HP went with the open element, chrome lid type. Valve covers for 66 should be chrome. Best I can recall the painted covers started appearing either during the 71 model year on the non SS BB cars or the next year as the de-emphasis on performance took hold. The covers may have been painted on the 60s Impalas, etc. big cars, but should not be on 60s Chevelles. Someone check me on that part!
